Thank you Masqman for the following How-To..(pictures coming soon)
Ringtones for the i465 Clutch. I have found the easiest way to edit an mp3 song to a ringtone is with Audacity (free music editor). Also, make sure you have a serial connection between your PC and phone with either a data cable or a Bluetooth connection. Begin by opening the song you wish to use in Audacity. Just to the left of the waveform, there is a small box with a drop arrow. Click on this box and select “Split Stereo Track”.
Once the song is split, you will be able to change each channel independently of the other. Begin by closing the bottom of the two waveforms (Right channel) by clicking the X by the song title next to the waveform. You should have one waveform remaining. Next, use the same drop down menu that you used to split the track and select “Mono” to indicate there is to be only a single output channel. If this is not done, you will receive a media error when you upload it to the phone. Next, I usually use the magnifying tool (over the waveform in the upper left hand section of the Audacity panel, it looks like a magnifying glass) and I zoom in on the beginning of the song. Determine what portion of the song you are going to use and crop you song to the desired length with the tools under the edit tab on the top. I will usually place the cursor at the starting point for my ring tone, select “Start to Cursor” and then press the delete key. I will then move the cursor to the end of my selection, use “Select Cursor to End” and press the delete key again. To clean up the ring tone, highlight the last 2 seconds or so of the tone and use the “Effect” dropdown tab to select “Fade Out”. This should leave you with a clean sounding ringtone if play is pressed. At this time, you should click on the “Project Rate” button in the bottom left corner and select “8000 Hz” from the menu. Last, select the “File” dropdown tab and “Export as WAV…” saving it in a location of your choosing. Keep filenames short with no spaces. Next, load it to the phone. I’m running Windows 7 with a Bluetooth serial connection to both my phone and my wife’s phone. Windows 7 has a “Send to” option in the right click menu in windows explorer. When I click on “Send to Bluetooth device” it shows me a list of Bluetooth devices and I select my phone from the choices. My phone is contacted and alerted that a file is incoming, I have to accept it by pressing a soft key on the phone. If you use a cable, I’m sure the process is similar. I bought a Bluetooth dongle that plugs into the USB on my desktop. It cost less than $5 at the time and I’ve had it for a few years now. The last step is to save this in the media center by pressing the left soft key when prompted. The song will play and the name will be available in the ringtones section as well as in the media center. Any questions, feel free to post in the forums. I’ll try to crawl them regularly. Masqman.
